Refining techniques, refining the mind Refining techniques, refining the mind

What is Aikido

In practice, "tori" (the one who applies techniques) and "uke" (the one who receives techniques) alternate,
training both mind and body.
The feeling of gratitude—allowing oneself to be tori, allowing oneself to be uke—is important.

Aikido has no competitions. Therefore, there is no winning or losing.
Refining techniques and training the mind. Having a settled stomach, a calm stomach—
that is nothing other than regaining equanimity.

Eliminating anger and sharpening a heart of gratitude. Aikido is purification (misogi).

Martial Art of "Wa" (Harmony)

Bu (martial) is love. Not to inspire force recklessly, but to control force.
It can be said to be a martial art suited to the confused modern age,
which seeks harmony beyond confrontation.
